UK searches of furniture during October delivered a mixed month, with searches of sofas, bedroom furniture, Wayfair, Furniture Village and flooring proving to be the most popular
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, seven days during October 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at 17 days. The highest searched dates were 12 October and 20 October with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of specific brand terms that included ‘bedroom furniture’, up 800%, ‘Wayfair’, up 90%, and ‘outlet furniture store’, up 40%. Other popular terms included ‘upcycled furniture’, up 80%, ‘raft furniture’, up 70%, and ‘furniture village track order’, up 90%, as well as ‘Stressless furniture’, up 40%.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded four peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 20 October with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Wayfair, up 100%, while Simba, Furniture Village, Emma, DFS, Sleepeezee and Tempur were other notable searches. The term ‘toddler bed with mattress’ saw searches rise 50%, while ‘standard single mattress size’ searches increased 50%, ‘best mattress for heavy people’ searches rose 60% and ‘can you take a mattress to the tip’ saw an increase of 190%.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded six days of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched date was 6 October with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included Next, Bensons for Beds, Wayfair, M&S, Sharps, Daals, IKEA and Amazon. The term ‘corner wardrobe’ rose 180%, while ‘rattan bedroom furniture’ searches were up 120% and ‘modern bedroom furniture’ was up 90%. Other terms included ‘grey bedroom furniture set’, up 50%, ‘built in bedroom furniture’, up 50%, and ‘black bedroom furniture set’, up 40%.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded one day of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched day was the 20 October, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Furniture Outlet Stores, Heal’s, Swoon, Next, Furniturebox, Furniture World, Sterling Furniture, Cotswold Co and Dunelm. The term ‘ceramic dining table’ rose 300%, while ‘dining room tables’ rose 180%. Searches of ‘cheap furniture’ also increased 60%.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw one peak day during the month. The most searched day was 6 October that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included Wayfair, Sterling Furniture and ScS. The terms ‘side table for living room’, ‘TV stand’, ‘modern furniture’, ‘sofa bed’ and ‘living room chair’ were all breakout searches, while ‘floor lamp’ searches rose 250%. The term ‘display case’ also rose 140%.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw eight peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 27 October. Popular related searches included ‘modular sofa uk’, up 50%, ‘corner sofa’, up 700%, ‘slimline sofas for small rooms’, up 250% and ‘high backed sofas’, up 70%. As for brands, popular searches included Sofa Club, up by over 4,300%, HSL, up 700%, and the Natuzzi, up 200%. Other notable brands included Wayfair, JYSK, Next, Arlo & Jacob, The Cotswold Co, DFS, La-Z-Boy, Duresta, Parker Knoll, Sofa Workshop, Dunelm and Dusk.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw 22 days scoring over 90, with the highest date being 26 October, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw 11 days scoring over 90, with the highest date on 19 October scoring the full 100.
Popular brand searches included UK Flooring Direct, Pay Weekly Carpets, Frank’s Flooring, Havwoods, B&Q, Tapi Carpets, Cormar Carpets, John Lewis and ScS. Popular search terms included ‘wood effect vinyl flooring’, up 50%, ‘bamboo flooring’, up 140%, ‘John Lewis carpets’, up 120%, and ‘carpet stores near me’, up 40%.
