Chinese electric blankets recalled over fire safety concerns

A number of electric blankets has been recalled after presenting a serious risk of fire.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a product recall for Hamilton McBride Single, Double and King Size Electric Blankets, which all originated from China.

The products are described as white electric blankets sold in single, double and king sizes, that are packaged in a white and orange rectangular cardboard box.

A statement said: “The heating element in the blankets can overheat. This could result in the blanket catching fire or burning users.

“The products do not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The products have been recalled from end users.”
