The rate of furniture production during November 2024 registered a monthly uptick, while the value in domestic goods was down on the previous month and against last year.
According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, the rate of furniture production rose by 1.2% compared to October, while falling 1.3% on November last year.
Production output is estimated to have fallen by 0.7% in the three months to November 2024 when compared with the three months to August 2024, mainly because of a 1.0% fall in manufacturing over this period.
Meanwhile, the value of the manufacture of furniture for November resulted at £880.7m, down 1.7% from £896.6m in October. Against the same period last year, the value fell 2.5% from £904.1m.
As for the value of furniture manufacturer exports, this decreased 0.5% to £52.1m for the month from £52.4m. Against last year, exports value fell 1.6% from £53m.
The value of domestic furniture manufacture decreased 1.8% to £828.6m from £844.2m in the month, while down 2.6% from £851.1m last year.
Monthly real gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have grown by 0.1% in November 2024 largely because of a growth in services, following an unrevised fall of 0.1% in October 2024.
Commenting on the GDP figures for November, ONS Director of Economic Statistics Liz McKeown said: “The economy continues to be broadly flat, having grown slightly in November following two small falls in the previous months.
“Services grew a little, with wholesaling, pubs & restaurants and IT companies all doing well, partially offset by falls in accountancy and business rental & leasing.
“Construction also grew, led by new commercial developments, while Production continued to decline in November with further falls across a range of manufacturing industries and oil & gas extraction companies.”
