Homeware sales rose on the high street again, marking the category’s twentieth positive result for store sales in 2024.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 2.81% for the week ending 20 October 2024.

Total homewares LFL sales increased by +3.27% this week from a negative base of -1.44% for the same week last year, marking the eighteenth positive result in 2024 for the category.

Store sales for homewares went up by +2.21% from a good base of +3.34% from the same week in 2023, symbolising the category’s twentieth positive result in 2024.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week’s positive total LFL sales outcome was galvanised by pleasant outcomes from the sales results of lifestyle and homewares as fashion recorded a decline both in-store and online. Total non-store sales have continued strengthen over the course of the year with this week marking the category’s thirty-fifth positive outcome for 2024.

“This week was mostly cloudy with some fog as well as heavy rain in some parts and strong winds caused by Storm Ashley. The weather in the UK during the same week was a mixed bag of rainy and cold conditions with single digit temperatures.”

Overall footfall grew by +2.1% this week compared to the same week last year, driven by a rise in high street footfall, which increased by +3.3%. Footfall in retail parks also went up by +1.8%, while shopping centres saw a very modest growth of +0.01%.
